Raiju are interesting creatures. Some would even call them elemental beings.

These Japanese spirits are literally the embodiment of lightning. They are greatly associated with storms and weather magick but can also be encountered at unexpected times. These spirits can influence the weather and the energy around them. As their keeper you may notice the air around you becoming heavy or light at times and may even feel changes in barometric pressure and ozone levels. This is just due to their presence around you.

Raiju can take many different forms including that of a cat, badger, or weasel. The appearance of a white or blue wolf wrapped in lightning is also common. They are usually very docile but during a thunderstorm they are said to leap from tree to tree and can even leave scorch marks where they have been. Often they appear as balls of lightning during a storm.

There is an old tale of Raiju hiding in humans’ navels but this is simply a metaphor for them increasing chi energy. They can also help to open and align charkas.

Raiju really aren’t light or dark. I’d call them grey. They don’t see distinctions and simply are what they are much like other grey natured spirits.

This male Raiju is large. He is the size of a large wolf and usually stays in blue wolf form with silver eyes although during a storm he changes forms.

His personality is energetic and full of life with pulsating energy.
