Kelpies are water based shapeshifting spirits. They usually appear in either human or horse form. Since they come from inland water areas they can also be seen as horses riding on waves, which is a very neat visual.

They come from lochs, lakes, and large inland pools of water so they are a freshwater being, not an ocean based being. Most of them come from Scotland but have populations all over the world.
