Papa Legba is a Lua (lwa) or God of The Voodoo tradition.
He is what I consider a gate keeper or keeper of the crossroads. Like other gate keeper deities, he can bridge the gap between the seen and unseen worlds and open access to the spirit world and other Lua. As such he is excellent to call upon before doing any type of magickal or psychic work to help your intentions succeed. He is gifted at spirit communications of all types and can make a path for other spirits to come through.
He’s also excellent to call upon to help with decision making, new ventures, and successful trips. Legba can also help us connect our inner and outer aspects of our own selves.
All of the Lua have both a positive and negative aspect. Their negative aspect is usually only seen if specifically called upon or if they are angry. So, keep that in mind and show due respect and keep all promises made to him for this being as he can just as easily close the gates and deny you access as he can allow it. Having said that, he’s generally thought of as a benevolent fatherly type figure and not difficult to get along with.
Legba appears as an old man walking with a cane and a limp. Although he seems tired and lame, he still has great power and represents the broken parts of ourselves that need to be healed and evolved.
His personality is generally agreeable, even friendly and wise.
