Foo Dogs are also known as Chinese Guardian Lions. They have been called upon for centuries to protect homes and buildings in China. Many statues and door knockers of their representations can be found.

Usually they are in pairs, male and female but can be alone as well, it’s just more uncommon.  Together in a pair their represent balance, yin and yang, life and death, etc.  It is said that the female protects inside the home and the male protects the outside of the home. They are straight forward in this regard as they protect from any harm or evil of the dwelling they are around.
